The Prensa Latina and the Brazilian sports media have reported "concerns" over a delay in returning the results of an anti-doping test sample provided by Brazi's first Pan Am female champion in the pool. Rebeca Gusmao.
Brazil's O Globo reported that Gusmao had presented an abnormal testosterone level in samples taken in 2006. Another test was taken after the Pan Am Games but according to the Brazilian media there has been no report from those tests.
FINA the International Swimming Federation has not made any statement and the Brazilian Sports Federation said it did not know of any positive result. The World Anti-Doping Agency asserted that it would only give its opinion when the process of investigation is concluded.
Gusmao fainted last week after she won her third gold medal at the Jose Finkel Trophy national championships at Florianapolis and had to be taken to hospital to receive oxygen and to be monitored.
Gusmao. 23 has made progress over 50m freestyle of late clocking a 25.05sec win at Pan Ams in July but her gains have not been out of the ordinary: in 2004 her best was 25.31. Over 100m her current best is 55.17 compared to a 2004 best of 56.16
